Para PARAWING

Ozone Pocket Rocket paraglider review: Stability, upwind performance, accessibility, and build quality

It took time, experience, and all the expertise of Ozone, multiple world champion in paragliding, kiteboarding, and wing, to offer a parawing worthy of the name. The Pocket Rocket is probably the most advanced parawing on the market. Designed by Ozone and tested and validated by Axcel Mazella, the Pocket Rocket is an accessible parawing for the masses.

The Pocket Rocket parawing is stable in flight and offers excellent wind performance, comparable to that of an inflatable wing. Water entry is easy: simply lay the wing on the water and get onto the board to prepare for takeoff. The powered takeoff is relatively straightforward, provided you have a foil suitable for parawing practice. The RSX Alpinefoil range allows for quick takeoffs and excellent wind performance while enabling incredible free-flying thanks to the impressive glide of the RSX.

With the RSX1260, at around 15/16 knots, it takes off very easily and accelerates quickly. I also got to see the full potential of the Pocket Rocket with the amazing Alpinefoil RSX Ultra 730 AR13. Despite the small size of the foil, it takes off relatively easily by pumping with the legs. For the jibe, in moderate winds, the best practice is to grab the small outer black line to trigger the turn instantly, which significantly simplifies the jibe. While harnessed, the flight is well-balanced; it accelerates and moves really fast. Thanks to the colored lines, it is easy to position the wing in the water. During takeoff from the water, you should not hesitate to grab the leading edge of the wing, which allows it to instantly catch the wind and take off.

The Pocket Rocket is exceptionally stable, and even when over-sheeted, it remains very comfortable with the stash belt harness. The Pocket Rocket, like all parawings, requires a bit of practice to get familiar with this new discipline, but for me, in just an hour, I was able to catch and complete jibes in both directions. I recommend trying it on a flat water surface for the first use before heading out into rougher seas.

Ozone has succeeded in making the practice of parawing enjoyable and easy, with impeccable manufacturing quality. The wing fits into an ultra-light mini bag, which is astonishing given its compactness
